Got obsessed with Ric Ocasek's production on Guided By Voices' "Teenage FBI." Also, there's a Frames song (or maybe Hansard solo?) with a girl singer trading lyrics. It's not the popular one. It's a deep cut. I can't find it. But that was the inspiration for the duet section. Little bit of Boston "More Than a Feeling" in that guitar strum, too. Written after a night of bad behavior at the Mondrian Sky Bar in Hollywood. Our waitress' name was Abigail, I overshared too many personal stories with my fellow revelers. Wrote this song the next day in my hotel room as a way to feel better about myself. This song was originally sequenced before 'Splode on the album, but after a few listens, they seemed like two sides of the same story, before and after, so I put them in logical chronological order. Anticipation, Demise, Suffering. That seemed to make sense. SAMPLE LYRIC: Putting every low card in your deck on the table.
